An envelope gathers multiple documents and multiple signers into a single signing flow — you send once and the whole process moves together.

Multiple documents

Upload PDF, Word, spreadsheet or image files: everything is converted to PDF and hashed on upload. Up to 20 documents per envelope on Starter, 50 on Business and no limit on Enterprise.

Multiple signers

Each one with their own fields and validations, signing in sequential order or in parallel. Limits match the documents: 20, 50 or no limit, depending on the plan.

One certificate of completion

Once the envelope completes, a single document consolidates the history of the process from start to finish, with a SHA-256 hash of each file for integrity checks.

A full lifecycle, under control

Schedule publication (and unschedule if you change your mind), pause, cancel or let it expire at the deadline — every transition is recorded in the envelope history.

Signing order

Sequential or parallel

In a sequential flow, each signer is released when the previous one finishes — useful when the director only signs after the client.

In parallel, everyone receives the invitation at the same time and signs in whatever order they prefer. The envelope completes when the last signature arrives.

What is an envelope?

It is Signater's unit of work: a package with one or more documents and one or more signers, all moving through the same signing flow together. At the end, the envelope generates a single certificate of completion with the full history of the process.

How many documents and signers fit in an envelope?

It depends on the plan: up to 20 documents and 20 signers on Starter, up to 50 and 50 on Business, and no limit on Enterprise. The maximum size per document also varies: 25 MB, 50 MB and 100 MB, respectively.

What happens if someone declines?

A signer can decline instead of signing, and the outcome is recorded with date, time, IP address and device. You are notified in real time, and the refusal appears in the envelope history and in your reports.

Can I schedule the sending?

Yes: you set the date, the envelope publishes itself and the signers are notified. Before publication, you can unschedule it. You can also set a deadline, after which an envelope that has not completed expires automatically.

Can I create an envelope from templates?

Yes. Instead of uploading, pick a template and fill in the data: the document is generated on the spot. You can combine multiple templates and uploads in the same envelope, including via API.

How do I validate each signer's identity?

How do I verify the authenticity of a signed document?
