These terms explain how Signater's artificial-intelligence features work: which ones exist, how your content is processed, the limits of AI output, and how to request review of automated decisions.
Last updated on August 30, 2026
These AI Terms (“Terms”) govern the use of the artificial-intelligence features of the Signater platform (“Platform”), operated by the Signater group — Signater LLC and Signater Tecnologia Ltda (“Signater”). They explain which features exist, how your content is processed when you use them, the nature of AI-generated output, and how to request review of automated decisions.
1.1. These Terms apply to all AI Features of the Platform, as described in Section 2. They form part of and supplement the Terms of Service — including their governing-law and dispute-resolution provisions — and, for Signers, the Terms for Signers. In the event of a conflict concerning AI Features, these Terms prevail.
1.2. Capitalized terms have the meaning given to them in the Terms of Service. In addition: “Sender” means the Customer, or a User of the Customer's account, who sends an Envelope for signature; “AI Features” means the Platform features that rely on artificial-intelligence models.
1.3. The availability of each AI Feature may vary by Plan and by the country of the account. The current catalog of Plans and features is published on the pricing page.
1.4. By using an AI Feature — or, in the case of a Signer, by proceeding with a verification step that relies on an AI Feature — you agree to these Terms.
Customers can start AI chat conversations about the Documents in an Envelope. Answers are generated by language models from the content of the Documents and the questions submitted. When the Sender enables AI chat for Signers on an Envelope, the Signer can also ask questions about the Documents they received for signature.
To support search and chat, the Platform extracts the text of Document pages — including through optical character recognition (OCR) — and generates numerical representations (embeddings) of that content. Extraction and indexing run when an AI Feature is requested for the Envelope; they do not run automatically across all Documents in the account.
When the Sender requires a photo of an identity document as a verification method, the images submitted by the Signer are analyzed by computer-vision models, which assess whether they correspond to a legible official identity document and detect signs of tampering or recapture (for example, a photo of a screen). The output of this analysis is a classification verdict, and attempts are logged for audit and fraud-prevention purposes.
When required by the Sender, the Platform performs liveness detection through an assisted selfie capture and compares the verified selfie against the photo on the identity document. Processing is one-off and produces confidence scores used to approve or decline the verification step. Signater does not build biometric profiles or maintain a persistent biometric database; the captured images are retained as evidence of the signature, as described in the Data Retention Policy.
AI Features operate only when the Customer chooses to use them or when the Sender requires them in the signing flow — never by default across the account's entire Document base. Signater may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue AI Features at any time; material changes will be communicated as described in Section 8.
3.1. When an AI Feature is used, the content relevant to that feature — text excerpts from Documents, page images, identity-document images, or selfies, as applicable — is processed by specialized artificial-intelligence providers engaged by Signater, listed on the Subprocessors page, solely to deliver the corresponding feature.
3.2. This processing may take place outside your country, including in the United States, subject to the safeguards described in the Privacy Policy.
3.3. Signater does not use the content of your Documents to train artificial-intelligence models of its own.
3.4. If no AI Feature is used on an Envelope, the content of its Documents is not submitted to the AI providers referred to in these Terms.
4.1. The output of AI Features is generated by probabilistic models and may contain errors, inaccuracies, omissions, or outdated information.
4.2. AI chat answers are provided for informational purposes only. They do not constitute legal, accounting, tax, or any other professional advice; they are not a substitute for reading the Document in full; and they do not amend, supplement, or authoritatively interpret the content of the Documents. They are not binding on Signater.
4.3. You must review AI output before using it or making decisions based on it. The content of the Document always prevails over any AI-generated answer.
4.4. To the maximum extent permitted by law, AI Features are provided on an “as is” basis, without warranty of accuracy, uninterrupted availability, or fitness for a particular purpose. The limitations of liability set out in the Terms of Service apply. Mandatory rights granted to you by applicable consumer-protection or data-protection law remain unaffected.
5.1. The automated verifications described in Section 2 — identity documents, face comparison, and liveness detection — operate with confidence thresholds. As a result, they may decline legitimate documents or photos, require new captures, or fail under unfavorable lighting, camera, or document conditions.
5.2. A decline at an automated step is not a judgment about anyone's identity or integrity. It only means that the verification did not reach the required confidence threshold on that attempt.
5.3. A Signer who disagrees with an outcome may: (i) retry the capture, where available; (ii) contact the Sender, who defines the verification methods for the Envelope and may, at its discretion, offer an alternative method; or (iii) ask Signater to review the automated decision by writing to [email protected], in accordance with Article 20 of the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD, Law No. 13,709/2018) and, where the GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) applies to you, Article 22 of the GDPR.
5.4. Signers have the right not to proceed with biometric verification steps and to deal directly with the Sender, as described in the Terms for Signers.
6.1. The Customer decides whether to enable AI Features and chooses the verification methods for each Envelope. The Customer is responsible for how it uses AI output and for assessing its suitability for the intended purpose.
6.2. By enabling AI chat for Signers on an Envelope, the Customer authorizes the processing of the content of the corresponding Documents as described in Section 3 and represents that it has a lawful basis to do so.
6.3. When requiring biometric verification — selfie, liveness detection, face comparison — or identity-document verification, the Customer is responsible for ensuring an adequate lawful basis for the processing of Signers' personal data, as set out in the Terms of Service and the Data Processing Agreement.
6.4. You may not use AI Features for unlawful purposes; to attempt to access third parties' content or data; to circumvent, overload, or degrade the Platform's controls and limits; or to attempt to extract, reproduce, or reconstruct the models used. The acceptable-use policy in the Terms of Service applies in full, and Signater may suspend access to AI Features in the event of a violation.
7.1. The processing of personal data through AI Features is governed by the Privacy Policy and, as between the Customer and Signater, by the Data Processing Agreement. Retention periods follow the Data Retention Policy, and the providers engaged are listed on the Subprocessors page.
7.2. Signater does not sell personal data and does not use Signers' data for advertising.
8.1. Signater may update these Terms to reflect changes in the AI Features, in the law, or in the Platform's practices. Material changes will be announced with reasonable prior notice, by e-mail or through a notice on the Platform. Continued use of the AI Features after the new version takes effect constitutes acceptance.
8.2. The current version will always be available at signater.com/ai-terms.
9.1. For questions about these Terms, privacy matters, or requests to review automated decisions, write to [email protected]. For general support, write to [email protected].
9.2. Questions about the content of a Document, or about the verification methods required on an Envelope, should be directed to the Sender.
